Pachamama Community

In 1997 I met Tyohar and his partner Chandani in India. Tyohar was holding open gatherings speaking about meditation, about presence, the silent being. In a one month long silent retreat he shared his vision to create a community in Costa Rica that embraces a alternative way of life. That felt very much like the way I wanted to live. With a group of friends we travelled twice around the globe sharing this vision with people inviting them to join. 2 Years later about 70 people met in Costa Rica and moved to the land that we had bought which is now Pachamama. Without electricity we lived in tents, bathed in the river and the bales of straw for the horses were our living room. It was a wild experiment and most amazing adventure. Now, 20 years later Pachamama has become an ecological and spiritual village, a flourishing community and an oasis for people to come and experience a different life and a profound journey of transformation.

Costa Rica is a very beautiful country and home to a rich variety of plants and animals. It contains 5% of the world’s biodiversity and round 25% of the country’s land area is in
protected national parks and protected areas. After planting thousands of trees given to us by the Costa Rican reforestation department Pachamama has become wild land again and many animals are returning to live amongst us. In the last years Tyohar has become a great photographer and the pictures underneath are from him.
